Stephen grew up in Plano, TX and attended Plano Senior High School where he played ice hockey and competed nationally in classical violin.
With this unlikely pair of skills, Stephen left for Boston, where he attended Harvard University. At Harvard, Stephen received a degree in Government with a secondary focus in Computer Science and language citation in Mandarin Chinese.
Stephen first became interested in business when he joined Harvard Student Agencies (HSA) during his sophomore year as a procurement manager for their chain of retail stores. In this role, he got a close-up look at how a business is run behind the scenes by being directly responsible for managing inventory levels and negotiating with vendors.
It was also in this capacity that Stephen personally encountered the power of leveraging technology to foster growth in a line of business. He experimented with opening a new sales channel for the company on Amazon, which to his surprise, produced immediate and significant increases in web sales.
Stephen eventually moved up the ranks and became President of HSA, a $5M company with 15 separate business units (including the retail chain he previously worked for) and over 600 Harvard student employees. Overseeing such a large enterprise was an enormous undertaking, but through it, Stephen received an invaluable experience in operations and management. His responsibilities included everything from hiring and training student managers to reporting finances to a Board of Directors. Inspired by his previous experience with Amazon, Stephen even launched a new tech-focused business within HSA aimed at providing software development services to the greater Boston community.
Excited to combine his interests in both business and tech, Stephen joined Volition as an Analyst in 2017.
Outside the office, Stephen can be found running along the Charles or watching highlights of missed Dallas Stars games.
