About OneDay

Headquartered in Dallas, TX, OneDay is a technology company whose mission is to capture and share stories of loved ones. Founded in 2012, its first product allows senior living communities to celebrate and digitally preserve the stories of their residents by leveraging first-of-its-kind, world-class technology. The company currently partners with nearly 4,000 senior living communities across the U.S., the U.K and Canada to provide marketing differentiation, shorten sales cycles and showcase a community’s programs and initiatives in a way like never before. OneDay was named one of Inc.’s Best Workplaces of 2020.

Why We Invested in OneDay

OneDay’s focus sits at the intersection of two of Volition’s core macro themes: 1) video is rapidly becoming the preferred content medium for businesses that are seeking to engage their consumers, and 2) the real estate industry is increasingly adopting software to speed up sales cycles and improve resident retention. We’ve backed several businesses across both of these themes, including in Connatix, ButterflyMX, and G5, and are enthusiastic about the particularly strong ROI that constituents in the real estate world are beginning to generate from video communication.

OneDay got its initial start in the Senior Living space, where it quickly found product/market fit by allowing customers to create high production value videos in a self-serve manner, helping drive more personalized interactions in their new tenant sales and resident engagement efforts. Approximately 5,000 Senior living properties leverage OneDay today to do things like shoot virtual tours, send engaging post-visit messages, and keep the families of residents up to date with the latest happenings at their loved ones’ residences.

While the Company’s platform applies to a broad range of use cases, the team at OneDay has intentionally taken a vertically-focused approach to drive growth, deeply understanding the pain points of customers and tailoring both their technology and customer service to meet those needs. That level of market understanding and empathy is directly reflected in the love that customers have for the OneDay offering – which we saw during our diligence efforts was absolutely off the charts – and helps power the company’s best-in-class SaaS metrics. OneDay’s recent expansion into the Multifamily market via its Convey solution, and into the Memorial Homes market via Reflect, represents the culmination of the team’s learnings in Senior Living, and we’re confident that the company is poised to lead both of these new markets in the years to come.

Fun Facts About Oneday

  • New Digs: During the pandemic, OneDay’s co-founder and CEO, Clint Lee, implemented a forward-thinking solution to keep his employees refreshed, while reinforcing the importance of work-life balance. Launched in August 2020, the “New Digs” program pays the expenses for four OneDay employees and their families per month to work from a vacation rental in the location of their choosing. So far, 32 out of 42 employees have been selected to take a “New Digs” trip, and 20 employees have taken a trip to destinations across the country like Breckenridge and Denver, CO; Park City and Moab, UT; Indian Shores, FL; Grand Rapids, MI; Hot Springs, AR; and Austin, Lake Granbury, Little Elm, Marble Falls, and Waco, TX.

  • Random Coffee: Since the start of 2020, OneDay has welcomed 25 new team members, and with the pandemic, many employees haven’t had the chance to meet in person. One solution OneDay introduced was “Random Coffee,” which is designed as a fun break to help employees get to know different people across the company by randomly pairing three people to meet over Zoom.

  • The Dundies: At the end of the year, OneDay hosts an award ceremony to celebrate their team and accomplishments. Since they weren’t able to have their holiday party in person last year, they continued their annual tradition virtually and hosted the Dundies Awards, inspired by the iconic episode in The Office. To make it extra special, OneDay employees received a fun swag box that had a Chili’s cup, as an ode to the original award ceremony held for Dunder-Mifflin employees at their local Chili’s restaurant, a Dundie award certificate and trophy and plenty of OneDay swag.
